Luciano Maffei, lo scolaro a sinistra nella foto, è nato e cresciuto al Monte Sante Marie, dove il babbo faceva il fabbro e il meccanico di attrezzi agricoli.
Già adolescente, si è trasferito ad Asciano e successivamente a Siena. Dopo una vita trascorsa come tecnico delle ferrovie, oggi vive da pensionato in città.
