In this panel, from San Giovanni d'Asso, we are certainly far from the classicist emphasis and grandeur found in the frescoes in the Chapel of the Quattro Coronati in Siena Cathedral, which reveal Riccio's artistic familiarity with Sodoma and Baldassarre Peruzzi. In this case, the pictorial execution is sparse and tired, especially when compared with the contemporary panel of the Holy Family, housed in the Pinacoteca Nazionale in Siena.
