Grotti Monteroni d'Arbia

CASTLES

Fortified house, already small fortress in the jurisdiction of the plebeian parish of Saint John the Baptist in Corsano. It is on the top of a hill, at the northern-eastern base of which, flows the stream Sorra. The grand tower, already small fortress of the family Ugurgieri in the Middle Age, is used as a country house by the marchese Nerli from Siena in the following epochs. The castle of Grotti is mentioned in connection with the conquest and devastation, together with the annexed houses and the near tower of Strine, by the austro-hispanic soldiers during the last war against Siena and Montalcino.
